It has been said that the noblest way of giving back to society is by raising happy, healthy, and successful children. Through its advocacy, Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga, Lucky Me! aims to remind parents of their very critical role at the dining table.
Lucky Me! launched its advocacy entitled “KAINANG PAMILYA MAHALAGA” (KPM) in October 2007. It aims to encourage parents to frequently eat dinner with their children and be involved in their lives.
Dinner is a perfect time to connect with your family on a daily basis. Asking your children about their day and talking about yours, shows your kids that you love them and demonstrates that you are there to listen to them. If you make it a habit to stay engaged in your children’s lives and to regularly communicate with them now, your children will be more willing to talk to you as they encounter critical crossroads in their lives – when they are having difficulties in school, when they start feeling the pressure from their peers to start experimenting with cigarettes, alcohol, and illegal drugs, etc.
All in all, regular and frequent family dinners are associated with children’s better achievement scores, fewer behavioral problems, healthier diets, and lower rates of smoking, alcohol use, drug use, early sexual behavior, and suicidal risk. So do not underestimate the power of parenting during family meals. Keep gathering around the dinner table with your children and you’ll help feed their mind, body and soul.
